Move over acai bowls, there’s a new superfruit in town that makes bright and beautiful smoothie bowls with a lovely pink hue. The fruit I’m referring to is dragon fruit and despite it’s name it has quite a mild and sweet flavor.
I don’t know what it is about acai, but I’ve never been a huge fan of the frozen acai smoothie packets. The first time I purchased them, I accidentally bought the sweetened variety and while they tasted okay I wasn’t keen on adding 16 grams of evaporated cane juice to my morning smoothie. I did give the unsweetened variety a chance, but besides the nutritional benefits and fun toppings I still couldn’t quite figure out what all the hype was about — the flavor just wasn’t my favorite, especially not for the cost as those packets are pricey!
So naturally when I found out about Pitaya Plus frozen dragon fruit puree smoothie packets I was a little skeptical and wasn’t sure I’d be a big fan. Turns out I was wrong. Very wrong.
The company sent me a few packets to try and I have to say, I LOVE the sweet, mild flavor of Pitaya (it tastes almost melon or kiwi-ish), the fact that there’s no sugar added and that it’s packed with antioxidants and nutritional benefits.
And there’s definitely something to be said about the bright color — it’s pretty remarkable that something natural has such a vibrant pink color. I’m kind of in love with it.
