There has been a debate for a few years as to the amount of water that a person should drink every day. The recommended amount has gone from seven to ten glasses of water per day. Though the debate has been focused on the average amount of water that a person should consume, there are also a few factors which can increase or decrease such as environment or level of activity. The truth is that we need to have water because it can help with several health issues which may affect those who become dehydrated or consume too little. Science Daily reports that a study confirmed that an 8oz glass of water before each meal is all that you need to start losing weight. The study was presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society. The difference was measured in pounds between regular dieters and those who drank water before each meal. The average calories consumed by those who drank the water ranged between 75 and 90 per meal. After the trial period, the people who drank the water actually lost 5 more pounds than the control group. Water also helps people get a feeling of being full so they are less likely to reach for a high calorie snack in the middle of the day.


Can Help with Some Aches

A lot of people who feel aches such as back pain do not realize that the pain may be due to dehydration. Water serves to hydrate and lubricate the muscles and when those muscles are not well lubricated they can start to hurt. If you feel that you have back pain and are not drinking enough fluids, then you should consult your doctor and start hydrating again as soon as possible. Though the back pain may be due to other conditions; a lot of times people will begin to notice the difference in a couple of days when the problem is dehydration.


Keeps Your Body Hydrated

If you are taking in less fluids than what your body is using you will quickly become dehydrated. Dehydration may occur even if you are taking the recommended daily amount of water if you are performing a task that makes you sweat a lot or if you are vomiting or experiencing diarrhea. According to the Mayo Clinic, when you are not taking in enough fluids and become severely dehydrated you will need medical attention because the body cannot function without the proper amount of fluids in the system. People who are experiencing illnesses or who live in hotter weather will need to consume more water than those who are not.

There are many ways in which water can help you flush out toxins from your body. The obvious one is that it flushes out the things that your body does not need when you go to the bathroom. Water also helps you get softer stools and therefore it becomes much easier to relieve yourself. Another reason to drink water is that it keeps you cool on the inside and the outside of your body. According to the US National Library of Medicine, when you sweat your body is doing so to keep you cool, but at the same time you are losing fluids which your body will need to replace.
