What is the Breast Cancer Diet?

A breast cancer diet contains nutrients which help reduce mutations in cells of the breasts. Normally such a diet contains a lot of antioxidants. Antioxidants defend the body against free radicals which can affect cell division processes and cause mutations. A breast cancer diet also contains a lot of vitamins and minerals. Vitamins also have antioxidant properties while vitamins like folic acid are essential in the formation of new cells and tissues. Minerals like calcium have been identified to help the body fight breast cancer and other forms of cancer like prostrate and colon cancer.

How the Breast Cancer Diet Works

When body cells use up oxygen, free radicals are formed as by-products. Free radicals reach with cell membranes through oxidation. This has a damaging effect on cells which can cause mutations. Antioxidants such as vitamin A, selenium and vitamin C remove antioxidants from the blood stream, thus helping prevent cancer. A breast cancer diet is rich in dietary fiber. Dietary fiber helps eliminate harmful toxins in the gastrointestinal tract before they get to the blood stream and cause cell mutations. Plants have natural substances which protect them and preserve their vibrant colors. Some of these substances have capabilities of slowing tumor growth.
